What they thought of time controls in 1922
Fast, Faster, Fastest
The legendary Englishman continues ”Abroad, in serious chess, the recognized rate is 15 moves an hour; and until we come into line with this I am sure our representatives will be handicapped in International contests, for, when playing at a rate slower than that to which one is accustomed, it is hardly possible to make the best use of the extra time at one’s disposal…It is a point on which I hold a very strong view.” (Introduction to The Book of the Hastings International Master’s Chess Tournament/Craft 1923)
