WADA to insist on no Russian flag
Nepo’ not allowed to play with Russian flag
When Ian Nepomniachtchi sits down to play Magnus Carlsen in Dubai for the World Chess Championship, there will be only one flag on the table, and that will be Norway.
The Russian challenger will be denied the use of his native flag, or the Russian national anthem, all part of WADA’s 2 year sanctions against Russian sports.
Take a look at what happened yesterday in Poland at a World Draught Championship:
6-time World Draught Champion denied Russian flag
Yesterday, in a World Championship Draughts match in Warsaw the Russian player’s flag was removed at the request of WADA. Reaction was swift from the Kremlin, but there is nothing to be done. The same thing is going to be done in chess tournaments.
All part of a punitive 2-year round of sanctions against Russian sports. In the Reuters article below, the Polish organizers actually apologized to the Russian player, but argued that WADA insisted.
Below is a Russian news report on the Warsaw incident, and clearly the whole story is spinned into some ‘racism’ narrative. Which it is not. But making the story worse, the Russian player lost this game. As an aside, Tamara Tansykkuzhina is one of the top-20 Russian draught players, regardless of gender.
