Tuesday’s Tactics and Games
Tuesday’s Tactical Lunacy
Hello Tuesday! I trust everyone is fine today. Here I present some great tactical exercises for you, as well as a number of instructive games, from recent events. Especially from the recent tournament in China, but also including several from Quebec’s ‘Trois Rivieres Open‘.
I should also mention that recently several readers wrote to me saying that the interactive boards seem jumbled together on their computer screens. That should not be, so I suggest to change the ‘zoom’ to 100% (quite easy in Chrome, and I assume also in the other browsers) and that will ‘fix’ the problem.
TACTICS!

Beaulieu,E – Mendoza,A Trois Rivieres 18.3.2018
The plan of castling long by Black is more than risky, it is suicidal! White to play and crush!

gm Xu, Xi – Lan,Z (2347) China 12.4.2018
Sometimes it is not enough to count pieces, you also need to know what you are doing! White to play and win!

gm Zhou,J – Zhao,C (2300) China 13.4.2018
Ofcourse White must win, but let’s not forget about the ‘Art’ of winning! White to play and crush!

Ning,K – wcm Yang,Y China 11.4.2018
White has a nice, aggressive set up, with more pieces in play that Black. Chess is about taking the opportunities that come your way…White to play and win!

gm Ding,L – gm Ma,Qun China 11.4.2018
Even the strongest grandmasters can fall for simple tricks! Black was doing very well, but then lost his focus for one move…White to play and win!

gm Zeng,Ch – im Wang,Yiye China 12.4.2018
Black’s passed d-pawn is almost compensation for the piece, but he ‘forgot’ that the object in chess is to give mate! White to play and win!

gm Harikrishna – gm Lu,S China 14.4.2018
A curious ending! Black’s last move was Rd7. Having sacrificed a pawn, White does not want to exchange pieces, but now what can he do? White to play and get a winning advantage!
