The Modern Game
Foxy encounter
Following up September 20th’s blog exploring the theme of Female Empowerment and Chess , I present another thought provoking photo, this time featuring a model who goes by the name MissSouls and shot by the German photographer Horst Kistner.
The photo is called ‘Reinecke’. Reinecke is the German for Reynard the Fox, a clever, mischievous animal featured in many old folk-tales throughout Europe. But not just in European culture, in others also, especially in Japanese culture.
But getting back to the photo above, what do we see? At first sight, a pleasant looking naked woman with a fox mask on backwards, sitting infront of a chess board, waiting for her opponent to make his first move.
Symbolism! Her nakedness lures her chess opponent to think that all is transparent, that she has nothing to hide. But the fox is by nature stealthy and tricky! The fox tricks humans with its cleverness. The fox preys on the innocence of it’s victims…will you be her next victim? Make the first move and find out for yourself!
