Searching for Peter Stockhausen
SPRAGGETT ON CHESS
This evening I received an email from Karen Richards (wife of the missing/disappeared Peter Stockhausen) informing me that she is still actively searching for Peter. If you remember, last year Peter Stockhausen told his boss that he had an errand to run and would be back at work in a couple of hours…he never returned. The RCMP was called into investigate after several days had passed. Newspaper articles were published in local papers about his disappearance.

Mounties looking for missing Banff man

RCMP need help from the public to find a Banff man who hasn’t been seen since last week.
Peter Stockhausen, 60, was reported missing by his employer last Friday, after he failed to show up for work most of the week. Stockhausen had been at work last Monday, but left early for an appointment. Police said Stockhausen called work the next morning, but hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
At this point, investigators don’t suspect foul play. Police said Stockhausen may be driving a light brown or beige 2000 Toyota Corolla with a B. C. licence plate HKN 681.

His wife and daughter Silken never heard from him again or since. At first Karen thought that Peter might have been a victim of some shady-business individuals/criminals that he had allegedly become involved with.
It later transpired that the 2-time CFC Prez and popular Canadian chess organizer had simply ran off with the family’s savings (and apparently also with some of his boss’s money to boot!). But not before maxing out his credit cards. The wife and daughter mounted a web site and appealled to members of the British Columbia chess community to come forward and provide information about Peter’s where abouts. Much of this was emotionally charged, naturally, given the desperate situation that Karen and Silken found themselves in.
Instead of being helped, a small group of members of both the BCCF and CFC (ex)governors began to harrass and intimidate the wife and daughter, trying to discourage them from finding the popular chess organizer. The wife was denied the chance to defend herself from these attacks by being banned from posting on the notorious messageboard–chesstalk. You can find dozens of blog entries here from last year. It was quite a scandal and I received hundreds of emails from members of the Canadian chess community who were horrified by the behaviour this very small group of deeply disturbed chess players.
Anyway, to make a long story short, today Karen showed up at the Bean Scene Chess Club in Kelowna on the occasion of Father’s Day. The club meets at the popular coffee shop every Sunday. Karen dumped the entire Stockhausen chess book collection (that was advertized on ebay last year) in alley behind the coffee shop!
Peter Stockhausen was not present, and none of the small group that was present recognized Karen. She asked permission to post a hand-written message on the shop’s board:
”To Grant Rice, Bean Scene/Kelowna Chess Club:Sunday, June 20 2009, Father’s Day
Karen promises to update me in the coming week of her efforts in locating Peter Stockhausen. Should any reader have information about his where-abouts, please contact Karen (you can contact me for the email address) or the CFC.

At the back of the Bean Scene premises, I have just unloaded Peter Stockhausen’s chess book collection for conveyance to Peter Stockhausen himself, via his underground railway of “… people who know…” — with due regard for everyone concerned.

ps: I suggest hurrying outside to get the books, as the location is insecure.”
