Saturday potpourri and other nonsense
WCC match begins today!
Details are everything! Team Carlsen checking out the playing area earlier yesterday. Notice that Carlsen seems to be in his own little world, feeling which chair is more to his liking. Considering how many hours both players have to be prepared to be seated and concentrated, this is one of the most important decisions for the match!
Former world champion Boris Spassky attended the opening ceremony. One of my all-time heros, Boris now uses a wheel chair but has not lost either his sense of humor or his appeal to spectators and fans. I would love to listen to his comments on the Anand vs Magnus!
Kasparov did NOT attend the opening ceremony, but then again, neither did Putin! Perhaps they both stayed away for fear of the other being present?! Joking aside, I look forward to Garry’s insight into the match as it develops. As for his insight on Russian politics and/or Putin…they get filed into ”Trash Can”, as do most chess players who have watched Kasparov sadly follow the same path of political-extremism as Fischer did in his final years…
FORMALITIES AND TIME TO LISTEN TO SPEACHES
