Iturrizaga Wins American Continental!
Quick 1-Minute Summary

Congratulations to Venezuelan grandmaster Eduardo Iturrizaga for winning the strong American Continental (held in irresistible São Paulo) with 8.5 points from 11 games. By comfortably drawing his last 2 games Eduardo allowed 3 other players to catch up with him, but the tie break system never left any doubt about the pole-position winner. Congrats Eduardo!

The top four finishers also qualify directly for the upcoming World Cup (sometime in November). The last round was quite hard fought, as could have been expected, with not less than five (5) decisive games on the first 10 boards.

Competition was fierce, and unfortunately, despite both Canadian grandmaster Aman Hambleton and American grandmaster Timur Gareyev winning their last round games, neither could reach the podium. Both achieved, respectively, 8th and 11th positions. Congrats for the effort!
