Hardly a joking matter…
Have you noticed that every time there is a terrorist incident in Europe –in France, for example–there is talk of implementing a US-style mass crackdown on civil liberties and rights as what happened in the wake of 911? While in the US–everytime today there is a terrorist incident, like this past week–the US government shys away from calling it such (Islamic terrorism)? Why?
And let us not forget that simultaneously the US, France and England increase their bombing campaigns in the middle east. Shouldn’t it also call us to question the use of mass surveillance as a preventive precaution against terrorism? It simply does not work!
Instead of making us safer, it has moved us up to the front lines of war, while the telephone calls and internet activities of our children are without any privacy…and will haunt them the rest of their lives.
