Figueira da Foz begins…
2016 edition continues until November 6
In the best Portuguese tradition!
The 2016 edition of Portugal’s best international OPEN began yesterday, bringing together some 50 players from 13 countries. In all, 22 players have titles, including 8 gms. The tournament is run as a 9-round Swiss, time control of 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes to finish (including the 30-sec per move increment). Chief organizer is my friend and team mate Miguel Babu. Chief Arbiter is Portugal’s best: Carlos Dias, whom my readers should remember has been arbitring some of the world’s most PRESTIGIOUS events in recent years, including the Candidates.
I play regularly in this event. This year another Canadian is participating, IM Leon Piasetski. Also playing is Oleg Romanishin, Luis Galego and several titled female players from Georgia: Tsatsalashvili and Gavasheli. I think this is the first time anyone from Georgia is taking place! Welcome! You can follow the games LIVE.
