Social Media Revolt gains Momentum
FIDE shattered by Covid-19

The game of Chess, as we know it, has disappeared. The coronavirus has left FIDE in complete disarray. Hurried efforts to move ONLINE have met with deserved criticism of the FIDE leadership trampling on players’ rights as well as ignoring FIDE’s own constitutional responsibilities.
Not only is all official over the board (OTB) competition cancelled for the forseeable future, but rumors of FIDE cancelling the current World Championship Cycle are beginning to gain traction.

With CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sports) expected to uphold WADA’s 4-year sanction of all Russian sports federations later this November, backdoor Kremlin funding of FIDE will likely come under increased scrutiny, exposing Dvorkovich’s lack of success in attracting any significant non-Russian sponsorship since his election in 2018.
The year 2020 will likely go down in FIDE history as the year of the Perfect Storm: first Covid-19, and then WADA. After 25 years of Russian Oligarchy rule, a perfect storm might just be what is needed to clean up FIDE.
