On Faster Time Controls & Dumbing Down Chess
Where is the dignity?

The constant tinkering with time controls by tournament organizers and FIDE officials is ruining our game. As Grandmaster Alexander Colovic is president of the ACP (Association of Chess Professionals) his opinion carries some weight, and no doubt is shared by a good many ACP members.
“Why do we expect that by dumbing down our game and making the players clowns we will be able to sell it to a wider, usually not very interested, audience? If we don’t respect ourselves, do we really expect the rest of the world will?”
I am not a member of the ACP, but I fully agree with Alexander’s opinion. Readers will recall that I have often written here on this blog similar arguments. I suggest the readers to take a look at what Alexander has written over on his blog. It might surprise you, though I doubt that FIDE officials really care for any harsh criticism from those who actually play the game!
