Bay Area International 2019
Quick 1-Minute Summary
One of North America’s strongest Open tournaments is taking place in San Francisco between the 1st and 7th of January. A total of 107 participants, including 25 GM’s and 25 IM’s.
The 9-round tournament is normable (of course!) and has $13k in prizes (5k, 3k, 2k, 1k, etc). The time control is the standard 40 moves in 90 minutes followed by 30 minutes to finish (plus 30′ per move).
Standings after 1 round of play
In such a strong field I recognize some familiar names , veterans James Tarjan, Anthony Saidy, John Watson as well as Vancouverite IM Leon Piasetski. Another Canadian, Ontario’s IM Shiyam Thavandarin is also participating, looking for his first GM norm.
