A pic is worth a 1,000 words…

“The strangest thing has happened. I really missed my dog. That’s never happened to me before. You know, on a long tour you do hear people saying they miss their pets. I never have. But last night I started really missing my dog. It’s very odd, ’cause I don’t have a dog.”

GANDHI ?!
I like this photo! Infact, I LOVE this photo! Here we have Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, FIDE president for the past two decades, manifesting his support for the unfortunate situation that the Norwegian Olympiad organizers have created in putting several participant countries/teams into an intolerable situation.
Rules may be rules, but they are FIDE rules and for FIDE to enforce, not third parties, and especially in a blatantly political context, not to mention hurtful and counterproductive. The letter of the law should never be interpreted outside of the spirit of said law. The Norwegian behaviour, overall–including the VISA issue and June money problems–have eroded much goodwill in the chess community.
So Kudos to Kirsan for going the route of due process in court against the Norwegian organizers! There is little doubt that he will win, once more…
