Quick 1-Minute Summary

The 86th Brazilian Chess Championship (finals) is taking place between the 10th and 19th of January in Petropolis. This 16-player event is run as a series of elimination 2 game mini-matches, much as in the World Cup.
In the case of a tie after the 2 games, a series of tiebreaks at reduced time control will take place. You can read the exact regulations HERE.

The final match will see 4 classical games followed by, if necessary, the tiebreaks. Total prize fund is 38,000 Brazilian Reals.

In the first series (16 players) of elimination games, all of the higher rated players won. Today will be played the second game of the second series (8 players). Here are the results of the 2nd round so far:
