2018 FIDE election humor!
Clean Hands 4 FIDE
Nigel Short’s slogan for the 2018 Election is ‘Clean Hands 4 FIDE’. The above composite subtly captures at once several controversies surrounding Nigel’s public image.
Nigel Short’s name is synonymous with mischief. What is Short’s real intention concerning FIDE’s immediate future, should he win the presidency in Batumi later in October?
Dignity above the Money
Makropoulos’ election slogan is the cryptic ‘Dignity above Money’. His group photo (minus the money above) is a carefully photoshopped image…but any family photo of Makro MUST include the money, no? You agree ofcourse! Makro has spent his entire FIDE career with his hand in the cookie jar…he is almost married to FIDE’s money!
One of the funniest semblances of ‘support’ that this election has witnessed is Macau’s ‘open letter’ to FIDE presidential candidate Nigel Short. (LINK) Mr. Jose Silveirinha, Macau delegate, goes out of his way to explain that Garry Kasparov will always get Macau’s unconditional support.
Silveirinha painstakingly details Kasparov’s considerable support for Macau chess the last FIDE election (2014). At the same time, Silveirinha does not describe a single contribution by Short to Macau chess. Or a single reason why Macau would under normal circumstances support Short.
But Silveirinha does not mince his words:
”We know that Gary is supporting you this time…so you may count on our vote.If you want to use this email and spread it as our open support letter to you, please do.”
