Women’s World Ch Game#2
Quick 5-Minute Summary
Round 2 of the Finals of the Women’s World Championship witnessed Katerina Lagno surprise her opponent with something other than her usual King Pawn Opening. The game soon entered a drawish endgame with opposite colour Bishops, but where Ju Wenju would have to play precisely to maintain the balance.

No doubt Lagno is following the advice of Morozevich who, as main commentator of the tournament, had suggested earlier that the way to play against the Chinese star is to prevent her from getting the positions that she likes and to apply some pressure on her.
The strategy seems to be working, as Lagno is now a pawn up with a clear positional advantage. Now the only question is whether Lagno has the necessary technique to follow thru to victory. I will give the entire game as soon as it finishes.
INFACT, Lagno won the game. Congrats! She now leads 1.5 – 0.5, but there are two games left. Tomorrow Ju Wenjun will have the White pieces, and must win to stay in the match.
