Womens Paraguay Chess Team seeks funds
Chess is a Gentlemen’s Sport
I like this story! Apparently the Paraguay Chess Federation only had money to send the men’s team, not the women’s team. So to travel to the Batumi Olympiad, each of the members of the women’s team of Paraguay needs to raise 2340 euros. To raise this money, they first produced an absolutely adorable photo, dressed as men!
On the right side is written:
”Gentlemen of gentile, attentive supportive conduct. Athletes able to see beyond the board. Audacious strategists with the refinement and intelligence necessary to analyze the next movement. Competitors of a conservative discipline, where ironically the Queen is the most powerful piece. Jennifer, Gabriela, Leticia, Luz and Anahai are the gentlmen that qualified for the 43rd Chess Olympiad, Batumi 2018, Georgia.
Help them fulfill this dream of representing the country by contacting (telephone number)”
Most of these players have FaceBook pages. Here we see a photo of Luz Gabriela Carreras and her boyfriend taken from her interesting FB page. (The boyfriend tries to get into every photo! I can understand why.)
In the fund raising photo above Luz is on the lower right hand side. Readers can also find the Spanish translation of the fund raising photo (actually, it was written in Spanish) on the FB page of Leticia Avalos. Let’s hope that they succeed in going to Batumi!
