Wednesday 5-second tactics!
SPRAGGETT ON CHESS

From the open tournament in Baden-Baden last week. Position after 32 moves. White has an obvious positional advantage (more active pieces, better pawn structure, the initiative….)
The theme here is the ”over-worked” piece; the Black Rook on g7 must both help out defend both h7 and the Queen on e7. Ofcourse, for the moment this not seem a problem…but in chess we often find magic in tactics!
WHITE TO PLAY AND OBTAIN A DECISIVE MATERIAL ADVANTAGE!

The above position reminds me of one of my early combinations. The following position occurred in a game in 1974 (Montreal) against an opponent whose name I do not recall:

WHITE TO PLAY AND WIN!
Here the overworked piece is the Black Queen, which must defend not just the pawn on d4, but also the Rook on d8 and help defend (indirectly) the h-pawn. The solution is below:
1.Bxh7 {!} Rxh7 2.Rxd4 {!!} Rxh3 {!} ( 2…Nxd4 3.Qf6+ Kg8 4.Rg3+Rg7 5.Rxg7+ Qxg7 6.Qxd8+ Kh7 7.Qxd4 $18 ) 3.Rxd7 Rxd7 4.Qf6+{!} ( 4.gxh3 {??} Rg7 ) Rg7 5.Qxe6 Rd3 6.Qe8+ Rg8 7.Qh5+ Kg78.Qg5+ Kf7 9.Qf5+ Ke8 10.Qxd3 1-0
