SPRAGGETT ON CHESS
The 16th Bora Kostic Memorial comes to a close tomorrow. I have been following the action, and there is plenty of it. I recommend the readers to visit the above link and follow the games live, or just take a look at the photos, videos and history. The website is a model for any serious minded organizer!
Round 3 produced one of the most interesting games of the tournament. The Romanian GM Vladislav Nevednichy is one of Romania’s most experienced players (born 1969; champion of Romania in 2008) and has a style that is universal, like Boris Spassky. He can play boring positional chess or lively tactical cat-fights, or sometimes both at the same time!
Witness this game where the talented Serbian GM Nikola Sedlak placed his Knight on h4 and the Romanian simply ignored it for the longest time, preferring to make threats on the other side of the board. Later the Serbian withdrew his Knight and the position after Black’s 28th move is below:
29.Rxe5! Ne7 30.Rxe7!
The reader will find it well worth the effort to replay this lively game several times!
