Torneo Int. Ciudad de Arica
Quick 1-Minute Summary

From the 13th to 20th in Arica, Chile was organized a small but tough tournament with 127 participants, including 11 GM’s and 12 IM’s from 16 countries.
Alexi Shirov emerged victorious with a blistering 8.5 points from 10 rounds. Undefeated. Congrats!

The time control was a bit unusual: 90 minutes (plus 30′ per move) for the first 40 moves, followed by blitz to finish (3 minutes; plus 2′ per move).
Final Classification

2018 was a turbulent year for Alexi, his results being far below normal, causing his ELO to tumble. Alexi also changed federations (again!) and is once more listed as a player from Spain.
Hopefully this tournament in Arica means that the worse is over for the Latvian superstar, who, in my opinion, is still one of the top-10 players in the world. We will have to see in 2019!
