Searching for an Opponent

In 1968 there were no ‘online’ options to finding an opponent. Either you were a member of a local chess club or knew of a neighbour who liked to play and didn’t mind you beating him. As a last recourse, there was correspondence chess.
How much things have changed! The internet today provides a 24/7 option to play a human, and your cellphone surely has an app that might let you win once in a while!
This difference between 1968 and today probably goes a long way to explain why so many young players today learn to master the game so quickly.
