Today’s chess quotation
SPRAGGETT ON CHESS
Carlsen was asked if he considered himself a tactician or a strategist. Usually players can be classified in one of the 2 classes. Tal was clearly a tactician. Tigran Petrosian was a strategist. Some players are less clear: Spassky was once described as the world’s most universal player: equally at home in any type of position.
In anycase, here is Carlsen’s view of himself:
”I’d call myself an optimist! In actual fact I don’t have any clear preferences in chess. I do what I think circumstances require of me – I attack, defend or go into the endgame. Having preferences means having weaknesses.”
