SPRAGGETT ON CHESS
Position after 30 moves in the game between grandmasters Perunovic and Miladinovic from t the Serbian Championship this week. It has been a cut and thrust game for most part, but now White is ready to pounce on the Black King.
WHITE TO PLAY AND WIN!

From the Capablanca Memorial taking place right now. White clearly has a strong bind on the Kingside and has amassed considerable fire-power. For the moment, Black is holding, but not for long! White has a very strong move here (even stronger than the logical Rf7), that spoils the party…
WHITE TO PLAY AND CRASH THRU WITH STYLE!
THIS YEAR’S DEADLIEST DISCOVERED CHECK?
This has only curiosity value, but I find the finish of the recent game in Paris (Alekhine Memorial) between Aronian and Kramnik very amusing! Kramnik had just promoted his e-pawn (51…e1Q+), giving check. The material is completely equal, but both Kings are open and exposed.
Aronian played moved his King, 52.Kd6+, with a discovered check against Kramnik’s King. Curiously, it is forced mate!! Kramnik resigned.
Perunovic, M–Miladinovic, I: 31.Rg8+! Rxg8 32.Qh6+ Ke7 33.Rxg8 Ba4 34.Nxe6!! 1-0 The Black monarch can not escape.
Madrigal, M–Perez Avendano, P: 22.Qxe7!! Very pretty! 22… Nxe7 23.Rxf8+ 1-0 There is a Bc4+ coming up that will force a mate on the back rank.
