Thursday coffee, potpourri and nonsense!

The first ‘coffee’ blog article of 2015! Even before the new year kicked off, the old-year left the world in a real mess: the worsening economic crisis; Ebola; the Ukraine impasse and the shadow of nuclear war sometime in the next 6 months; ISIS and the middle-east being engulfed in flames; the almost weekly report of hundreds of innocent school children being kidnapped , raped, sold or murdered without mercy by religious fanatics.

I believe that the real story behind the Charlie-Hebdo massacre is still waiting to be told. No sane person can condone such senseless violence, but if 9-11 has taught us anything, it is that these tragedies very quickly become politicized to help white-wash politicians’ careers, manipulate public opinion and push ever-aggressive agendas that infringe on our rights.
Have no doubt about it: we–the general public–have been manipulated from the moment the Charlie-Hebdo assassins fled in their get-away-car. Years of experience shamelessly spinning the facts to meet the political correctness of those in charge. Years of failed foreign policy, sanctions and bullying, supporting one-sided wars that have led to millions of unnecessary death and millions more refugees…etc, etc. Not one single leader who appeared at the unity march in Paris has stepped forward to accept personal responsibility for the mess that the world finds itself today. Instead, the same political bullshit and self-righteous preaching as always…and rallying around what the 9-11 and Snowden transformations have turned into cheapened and increasingly anachronistic cliches: ‘Freedom of expression’
Make no mistake that what violence happened in Paris last week can never be justified. By any religion. And while we wait for the facts to come out, little by little most probably, of said tragedy, try to maintain an objective view on what we really know. I recommend highly two articles to read as a way of trying to be an independent and responsible citizen: Isi Leibler’s January 12 article ‘The fruits of cowardice and appeasement’ that first appeared in the Jerusalem Post, and Jon Rowsen’s Charlie Hebdo: is nothing sacred? that first appeared on January 8.
