SPRAGGETT ON CHESS
1.
The wild horse
gm KAZIMDZHANOV,R (2690)
SVANE,R (2390)
From this weekend’s Bundesliga! Position after 41 moves. An upset in the making with the untitled Svane having dangerous attacking chances against former world champion Kazimdzhanov’s open King position. ESPECIALLY, watch how White brings Black to his knees with his single Knight:
42. Nd7! f6
Virtually forced as White threatened the deadly Nxe5. Black’s move is equally forced. In these lines Black can throw in …Rb1-ch, but this changes absolutely nothing.
43. d6!
Trying to decoy the Bishop away from its necessary defence of the f6-pawn. For example, immediately losing would be 43… Bxd6? 44. Rxf6 Qg5 45. g3! Bc7 46. Rf7 with a forced mate
43…Bd8 44. Nc5!
Threatening, among other things, to pick up the Bishop with a Knight check on e6
44… Bb6 45. Ne6! Kf7
The havoc wrecked by the White Knight seems to have come to an end….
46. Nf8!!
Hitting the Black Queen and the Black King dare not take the beast since he loses after 47.Rxf6! I love this Knight!
46… Qg7 47. Nd7!
Hitting everything (the Bishop and both the e5 and f6 pawns) and threatening Qh5-ch. Black is helpless! After 47… Bd8 48. Qh5! wins the house: 48… Ke6 49. Qe8 Kxd6 50. Qxd8 Qxd7 51. Rxf6 etc.
Kazimdzhanov resigned.
