Round 3 of the St.Louis Spring Classic saw Canadian gm Eric Hansen move up to 50% when he defeated tournament leader gm LeQuang in a nice positional game.
Employing ‘Capablanca’-like endgame technique, the Canadian applied pressure as he squeezed the Vietnamese superstar until the latter made a small imprecision and then Eric jumped at the opportunity and never looked back. Black resigned on the 60th move.
As pointed out in an earlier blog post, the tournament is a 9-round event that ends on the 10th. With Eric’s win yesterday, he now occupies 5th position in the standings, half a point behind the leaders.
