Some games from the Asian Continental in China
Championship comes to end tomorrow!
The Asian Continental Championships come to an end Saturday in Chendu,China. Everything is still up for grabs. As mentioned before, these strong qualifying events for the upcoming FIDE knock-out championship bring together many of the strongest players in that part of the world. With the obvious exception of European stage of this event, the Asian Continental is the strongest of its kind in the world.
Vietnamese sensation Vo Thi Kim Phung is leading the tournament with 7 points from 8 games!
Sensation Wei Yi has been having a mediocre tournament (by his standards), weighed down by a string of 4 straight draws followed by a painful loss against Vietnamese IM Tran Tuan. However, he has won his last two games and now has 5 points. A win tomorrow could place him back amongst the leaders. His opponent will be Indian GM Karthikeyan. Wei Yi will play on board 4 with the White pieces.
