EXPLOSION!

From Hastings, 1965 (!). An oldie but goodie…position after 29 moves of play. Things have not gone well for Black! Besides being a pawn down, the concentration of attacking power on the Kingside should be worrying for the Black monarch. Especially, notice how White has instant access to both f6 and g5….

SQUISH!

gm Fridman,Dan
From the recently completed Mitropa Cup. Position after 31 moves of play. Clearly Black is not so happy with his King in the centre, but atleast he is kicking! Black is hitting the White e-pawn. When you have an inferior position you really need to put your faith in counterplay.
HOWEVER, Fridman is at the top of his game these past couple of years, and he hits upon a remarkable idea that quickly establishes a winning position. Do you see the idea?
