Saturday Coffee, chess & FIDE
Saturday Coffee!
Good morning, Saturday! I trust everybody had a great week and that now you can relax and enjoy the good weather this weekend.
Yesterday, in Montevideo (Uruguay), began the XIII American Continental Championship. Two Canadians IMs are participating, Shiyam Thavandiran and Raja Panjwani. Up for grabs, besides the $5,000 first prize, are 4 qualifying spots for the upcoming World Cup. The tournament ends on the 10th. You can follow all of the results HERE. Let’s wish everyone the best of luck!
Coffee and Exercise
I wrote about this topic some weeks ago for the first time, and now I want to expand a bit on it. Although it might sound a bit un-intuitive, taking a coffee BEFORE you exercise makes a lot of sense. Or at least, according to the experts.
What does caffeine do for you?
- Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system and makes you more alert and coordinated
- Caffeine causes a decreased perception of pain, allowing you get a more intense workout.
- Caffeine improves muscle response and allows for a quicker recovery
Ofcourse, this is not for everyone, especially if you have some heart irregularities or higher than normal blood pressure. I suggest you speak with your doctor if you have any doubts. I also recommend you take a look at the recent literature and studies. Why not start HERE ?
Of course, nothing beats drinking a coffee sitting down on a cafe terrasse and reading a book or just watching people walk by…
The 2018 FIDE election campaign this past week
I suspect that the 2018 FIDE campaign is going to become one of the dirtiest elections in FIDE history. Or atleast it is shaping up as such.
And we are still almost a month away from the ‘3-month before the FIDE Congress begins’ DEADLINE for each of the presidential hopefuls to have declared all of their running mates and not being allowed to change them afterwards (barring force majeure).
I intend to follow very closely all of the candidates, write extensively and objectively (as much as is reasonably possible) and especially I intend to do interviews with key figures. The movers and shakers, as it were.
And I also intend to make sure that the TRUTH does not become the first victim!
Already considerable pressure has been put on a number of potential voters, at times completely unethical, and I intend to write and reveal several SCANDALS that have been taking place (especially in African chess) and have been deliberately ignored by some of our more popular english language chess sites, and I intend to use this blog as the victims’ mouthpiece.
(Please note that I am not referring above in any way to Nigel Short’s efforts, who as far as I am aware, is running a very clean campaign in Africa)
BUT THERE IS PLENTY OF TIME for me to reveal all of this, and more. I can assure the reader that this summer is going to be a LONG, HOT summer for those who want to win AT ANY PRICE the 2018 FIDE election later this October!
To be continued later this afternoon
