Sokolov vs Foreest slugfest continues
This match in Hoogeveen is quite hard fought…and it seems that White always wins! The fifth game saw Sokolov and Foreest play yet another KingsIndian Defence, same variation, but this time Foreest actually got the better game! However, in keeping with the Black/White tradition, it made little difference and Sokolov won in 62 moves. Later today we will see the final (6th game) clash between these two stars.
In the meantime, Short and Hou Yifan, also in Hoogeveen, made a draw in their 5th game, allowing Short to win the match with 3.5 points. Congrats!
The Russian Championship still sees a large tie at the top, but things should get interesting over the weekend. All the games were drawn yesterday, except for Inarkiev, who finally managed to drag himself out of the basement…(which means the X-table above is wrong)
It happened on October 22
