SPRAGGETT ON CHESS
POSITION AFTER WHITE’S 36th MOVE (36.Qe8)
Black has an obvious edge . Black now broke thru in fine style:
36…Rxc4! 37. PxR Bc5!
All of a sudden White’s King finds itself in a mating net. The game did not last long…
The old lion Viktor Korchnoi showed that he still has a lot of chess left him as he quickly crushed his opponent in great style. Korchnoi did not castle and instead began a Kingside attack with Qf3 and then g4. It looked very much like a typical Sicilian attack…Korchnoi turned 80 years young just weeks ago!
POSITION AFTER 26 MOVES
Korchnoi broke in with the spectacular 27.Nxg7!! If the Knight is taken then 28.Nh5 and 29.Nf6-ch is immediately decisive. And if 27…Bxf4 then 28.Nxe8 Bg5!? 29. Qf7-ch wins the house. Black resigned after Korchnoi’s 27th move!
