Paul McCartney honoured at White House!
SPRAGGETT ON CHESS
Sir Paul McCartney (still Paul to his fans) was honoured last night at the White House by the first family. Barack Obama presented Paul with the Gershwin Prize for popular song during a concert held on the presidential grounds.
The former Beatle brought down the house at a concert last night by belting out Michelle, aiming its romantic lyrics straight at the first lady. After serenading Michelle Obama with the words “I love you, I love you, I love you”, McCartney joked that he just might be the “first guy ever to be punched out by a president”.
The 90-minute concert was built around Obama’s presentation to McCartney of the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, awarded by the Library of Congress. The president said McCartney had “helped to lay the soundtrack for an entire generation”.

All of this has been great fun for jokesters! One website wondered if the real reason Paul was invited to the White House was because of the uncanny resemblance between Obama’s mother and the young Beatle:
Yes, I suppose there might be something there…!?
As an aside, is there any relationship between the Beatle super-hit ”When I am 64” and the game of chess??
”The chess board has 64 squares. There is no falsehood in the rumour that Paul McCartney and the Beatles wrote “When I’m Sixty-Four” as a love poem to chess. Unless, of course, it’s a complete lie, which it probably is. Devereux, who is 32 years old (half of 64, and the total number of pieces on the board at the start of the game) looks forward to the telephone call from Sir Paul clarifying the situation.”
In anycase, it was a great night for Sir Paul…and one of the 2 remaining members of the legendary Beatles.
