Paul Dias wins Portuguese Championship (again!)
SPRAGGETT ON CHESS
The match has been well organized by the FPX (Portuguese Chess Federation) and held at the classy Don Luis Hotel in Coimbra (site of the Coimbra International Open, which this writer has had the pleasure to play in various times) Dominic Cross (who sent me the information and links) has done an excellent job providing internet coverage, live games and a webcam present at all moments during the game. Below is the post game analysis of the 2nd game (a Petroff Defence) that is now a youtube video!
The 4-game match between IM Paulo Dias and NM Jose Padeiro to decide the 2011 Portuguese Champion is supposed to finish tomorrow (officially) in Coimbra, but the 3-0 score in favour of Dias already makes clear that Portuguese international Paulo Dias has the title in his pocket. Congrats to both players for fighting chess!
IM Paulo Dias is a math professor, many-time National Team member and a strong poker player!

Jose Padeiro is also one of Portugal’s best known trainers and coaches. He just published this past spring an excellent book for players looking to improve their level of play: Seja Bem Sucedido no Xadrez em 128 passos . I had the honour of writing the introduction.
