Nigel Short happy to see tournament end
Still has the brilliant touch, but…
Nigel Short has clearly not yet fully recovered from his Covid hospitalization last month. This was evident in the Cattolica tournament, where while Nigel managed to play some brilliant chess — his finish against grandmaster Kotronias is magnificent — he still managed to lose his final two games after having achieved overwhelming positions that normally he would have scored 2-0 in any simultaneous exhibition.

The final game against the Ukraine grandmaster Bernadskiy must rank as one of the Cattolica’s most brilliant attacks and still qualify for the worse game prize! Nigel missed about a dozen wins in the middlegame and even managed to fall on time in the final position where he as at least a draw!
