Morozevich on his ”unusual” openings…
SPRAGGETT ON CHESS
Following Morozevich’s extraordinary result in the Governor’s Cup in Saratov this week (scoring 8.5 points in 11 games), the champion gave an interview, excerpts of which can be found at the excellent website WhyChess? IN PARTICULAR, I got a chuckle from the exchange on why Morozevich plays ”unusual” openings…
MOROZEVICH: But what openings do I play that are so unusual?
JOURNALIST: Almost everything.
MOROZEVICH: My opening are all perfectly normal, in my opinion.
JOURNALIST: So in your view everything’s fine, everything’s normal?
MOROZEVICH: It’s not fine, but being unusual is, it seems to me, an old label that exists because people are too lazy to actually look at my openings.
