CLASSIC KINGSIDE ATTACK
gm Skoberne, Jure
gm Sokolov,Ivan
Position after 29 moves. Black has 2-Knights and a Bishop guarding his majesty, but it is not enough: Sokolov has 5-pieces , all of them eager and ready to start the carnage.
30. Rxf6!
The opening salvo. This allows the White Queen to penetrate the defensive barrier.
30…exf6 31. Qh7+ Kf8 32. Nf5! Bh8

33. Nxf7!!

Very pretty!! Another good way to continue is 33. Ne6+ fxe6 34. Bh6+ etc The text move reminds me of another classic, Spassky vs Geller 1968. Take a look at the position after 24 moves
gm Geller
gm Spassky
Spassky broke thru with 25.Nxf7!!, exactly the same concept as in Sokolov’s game!
BACK TO THE GAME:
Black is defenceless after White’s last move. The White Queen, Knight and Bishop soon overwhelm the Black King. The game ended quickly: 33… Rxf7 34. Bh6 Ke8 35. Qxg6 [1:0]
