SPRAGGETT ON CHESS
An exciting day for chess fans around the world as servers failed amidst the sudden interest created by a neck and neck race between Vladimir Kramnik and Magnus Carlsen. Both were tied going into today’s final round with 8.5 points each. In one of the most anti-climatic finishes ever–in ANY sport–both favourites lost!!
I will not even try to explain it to my non-chess playing friends why both players lost, both had the same number of points, and yet one of them is declared the winner and automatically becomes the official CHALLENGER for the world championship sometime early next year…FIDE keeps changing the rules and the rules make less and less sense.
IN ANY CASE, congrats to both gentlemen!! A wonderful display of fighting chess. And best of luck to Carlsen against Anand next year! I hope he wins!
