Karjakin plays great game yesterday!
Karjakin gives a Spanish lesson
Yesterday Sergey Karjakin once again demonstrated why he is considered one of the leading maestros of the Spanish Opening. His Sochi World Cup semi-final game against the Russian Vlad Fedoseev closely followed classical Spanish theory for 19 moves.
Karjakin thought some 25 minutes before playing a new idea on the 20th, and 4 moves later it soon became clear that Fedoseev was lost.
Fedoseev struggled on in a hopeless position until move 33. A text book victory for Karjakin! With this win Karjakin goes directly into the finals without having to play any tiebreaks.
