Iranian dominates World Junior Championship
2018 World Junior Champ!
He lost his last round game, but still won the tournament with the margin of a full point! Seventeen year old Parham Maghsoodloo has had a great year, having won the Sharjah Masters Chess Championship in April with a fantastic 8 points from 9 games.
Parham is part of a new generation of Iranian talents that will likely shape the future of chess for some time to come. Not surprisingly, in 5th place was another Iranian talent, Amin Tabatabaei. Both are already seasoned grandmasters.
It was a very tough tournament! The US representative, ranked 12th before the tournament, Awonder Liang, lost his last round game and finished in 27th position. The top Canadian, Shawn Rodrigue-Lemieux, was ranked 123rd before the tournament, but finished in 76th position. Congrats!
