Indians take Reykjavik!

Another edition of one of the world’s great OPEN tournaments came to an end yesterday, with Indian GM A.Gupta deservingly taking first place with 8.5 pts from 10 games, while Indian heart-throb Tania Sachdev achieved her second GM-norm with 7 pts. CONGRATS to both!!

As we can see from the above table showing Tania’s opponents, she played against VERY gms in the final 6 rounds, not losing a single time, and winning twice! WOW!

The talented American IM Marc Esserman (soon to be GM!) just narrowly missed out on a GM-norm with his 2561 performance rating and 7 points. Marc lost only one game, against gm-S.Grigoriants, a fascinating tactical melee where the American had a very promising position but over-pressed. Marc, who is author of the best selling ‘Mayhem in the Morra‘ is spending several months in Europe, having already made a name for himself in Gibraltar and Cappelle (where I caught up with him and his charming coach Nisha and we spent some quality time together!). I fully intend to show his game against Grigoriants in a future blog article.
