In praise of APPLES
In praise of french apples…
“If two people love each other there can be no happy end to it.”
Ernest Heminway (1899 – 1961)
Arguably the greatest American writer of the early 20th century. I have read all of his work…not fancy, not really funny, certainly not always entertaining. But always compelling. Hemingway cut to the bone and has this extraordinary ability to bring the reader into that precise moment. And for that, alone, probably, Hemingway’s work is immortal.
It is thru faithfully relating those painful experiences that Hemingway has become immortal. Can we ask more of any artist? That we can still cry and sing along with him all these many years later is testament to his ability to tell the story exactly as it happened…and regardless of the outcome, to close the book. But as a changed person.
