Just out of curiosity, I checked the US Census figures (latest available 2010) to find out about how many American males over the age of 65 are alive. You can see above. The third column is the percentage of the total (male and female) population. Fischer would have been one of some 4-million (plus change).
Between 1943 and 1947 (today aged between 70 and 74) there were born in the US a total of 16 million (give or take a handful) males and females. The Census figures above also include immigration. So, today, of these just a shade more than 9 million are still alive. It appears that time is not the only thing that flies when you have fun…
