Will the real Beth Harmon please stand up?

I think the unprecedented success of the NetFlix TV series The Queen’s Gambit has been something of an embarrassment to the chess community.
MSM is asking who is the Beth character based on? Which female chess player? It is kind of awkward for us to explain that no female player of Beth’s stature has yet appeared.
Or that, if FIDE gets its way, there will never be a Beth Harmon. FIDE has invested heavily in gender discrimination. Under Dvorkovich, this has become even more the case.
Talented female players are quickly re-directed to female-only events, and FIDE throws real money at them to keep it that way when they enter adulthood. Their development as players is stunted and held back by the lack of top level competition that only can be found in men’s tournaments and events.
The FIDE leadership does not seem to be able to tell the difference between sexism, sexual discrimination, gender equality or female empowerment . FIDE thinks that female chess participation is only about money…

While Nigel Short’s views on female chess are universally rejected, the fact is that Beth Harmon’s person can only be based on a male player.
You can take your pick: Paul Morphy; Alexander Alekhine; Jose Capablanca; Misha Tal; Bobby Fischer…I choose Magnus Carlsen because he is prettier looking than all of them!
