Exciting finish at Russian Championship!

The 63rd Russian Championship finished earlier today with Ian Nepomniachtchi and Sergey Karjakin tying for 1st place with 7 points from 11 games. I don’t care what ELOs say or historians insist, but to my mind this year’s championship was the strongest of recent generations, and certainly the toughest tournament played this year!
Move over Anand, Carlsen and Topalov! Twenty year old Ian Nepomniachtchi has established himself –to my mind atleast–as the number one chess player in the world today. Earlier this year Ian won the prestigious European Chess Championship, one of the most coveted titles in modern chess. Already one of the most gifted players of his generation, Nepomniachtchi will have to find a way to navigate the turbulent waters of FIDE politics in order to qualify for a chance to play for the world championship. I predict this will happen before Ian turns 25.
Ian won the tie-break match against Karjakin by virtue of a draw in the 3rd and final tie-break game. Here is the video of that exciting encounter:
