European Individual Championship
2017 Championship of Europe (Part I)

Without a doubt the strongest open tournament of its kind in the world, the European Individual Chess Championship also serves as a direct qualification event for the FIDE World Cup to be held later this year. With a first prize of 20,000 euros, this year’s event has attracted 397 participants, including 175 grandmasters and 81 IMs.
The tournament is run as an 11-round Swiss. Time control is 90 minutes/40 plus 30 minutes to finish (plus 30′ per move). A total of 22 qualification spots are available. Apart from the usual excellent choice of LIVE games coverage (see right side-bar), you can also follow this tournament on the ECU facebook.
