Elizabeth Taylor R.I.P.
SPRAGGETT ON CHESS
The London-born actress was a star at age 12, a bride and a divorcee at 18, a screen goddess at 19 and a widow at 26.
”Success is a great deodorant. It takes away all your past smells.”
Born February 27, 1932, Elizabeth Taylor was the most talked about actress of the generation of our parents! Arguably the most talented and certainly the most beautiful, Taylor married not less than 8 times. Scandal and intrigue followed her all of her life, and she was a regular item on the front page of gossip rags for decades.
While she was not my favourite actress, I must confess that I watch Tennessee Williams’ ‘Cat on a hot tin roof” every chance I get. Taylor and Newman were magnificent together! Spell-binding performances by both of them.
CAN YOU RECOGNIZE A VERY YOUNG ELIZABETH TAYLOR IN THIS PHOTO?
“She was so extraordinarily beautiful that I nearly laughed out loud. She … [was] famine, fire, destruction and plague … the only true begetter. Her breasts were apocalyptic, they would topple empires before they withered … her body was a miracle of construction … She was unquestionably gorgeous. She was lavish. She was a dark, unyielding largesse. She was, in short, too bloody much … Those huge violet blue eyes… had an odd glint… Aeons passed, civilizations came and went while these cosmic headlights examined my flawed personality. Every pockmark on my face became a crater of the moon.”
