Congrats to Kaido Kulaots !
SPRAGGETT ON CHESS
My congratulations to my friend gm Kaido Kulaots for having recently won his 7th (!) consecutive Championship of Estonia!
Kaido was born in 1976 and learned chess early, showing promise. His first National Championship was in 1999 and he has won every time that he participated (reminds me of Bobby Fischer having won every US Championship he took part in). Kaido has also played on the Estonian National Team since 1998.
White to play and win
Kulaots vs Eduard Porper, Gausdal, 2006
Kaido and I have known each other for a number of years now. We currently play on the same French team (GIF sur Yvettes) and alternate 1st and 2nd board. A very friendly person, Kaido is well respected by his colleagues for his sportsmanship and sense of fair play.
I received an email from him this evening and he told me about an unfortunate incident involving his chess federation that has already cost him some money and tournaments: they forgot to pay their FIDE fees!
”…theres great amount of democracy amongst Estonian chessplayers right now, we all have the same rating and yes, it equals to zero. I had to skip Euro champs in Rijeka because of it despite having already paid for my hotel. But you surely know that blunders that are made by the federations can be much more awful than those that occur on chessboard…”
Yes, Kaido, I know EXACTLY what you mean!
