Chess quote of the day
SPRAGGETT ON CHESS
It sounded too good to be true: that FIDE was finally going to make millions by franchising its world championship to London. How often in the past have we heard this story line? Well, now it seems that FIDE might once more be drawn into a long and costly legal battle where the winner will be –SHOULD WE BE SURPRISED–lawyers and not the chess world.
“I will not allow such a mockery…As a member of the FIDE Presidential board no one has informed me about any contracts. Ilyumzhinov can talk what he wants.
When I see on paper the contract with Agon, with lawyers we will go to the CAS Sports Court in Lausanne. The Bulgarian Chess Federation worked long on this bid, we have talked to sponsors, ministers, and even the Prime Minister.”
