Chess, potpourri and other nonsense

BIG AL (?!)

Alexander (Big Al) Beliavsky needs no introduction to my readers. A player of my own age, Belyavsky won the World Junior (’73), won not less than 4-Soviet Championships, numerous gold medals in team events, Candidate for the World Champion on several occasions, won so many international tournaments that I just don’t have space to mention here (including one by a 11-0 score!). ETC. ETC…
Did I mention that he is also a respected author and trainer? And is STILL an ACTIVE player! In any case, it was with some chuckle that I came across this header for an article in a popular chess website:
Apart from the tasteless title, the article is excellent and based on a recent interview with the man himself. ENJOY!

CARLSEN-MANIA
Everyone is talking about it! When Carlsen, chess champion of the world, loses TWO games in a row, that is NEWS! Quite a bit has already been written on the ‘net about poor Magnus’ BAD DAY AT THE OFFICE.
KIMBERLY MINE TO BE RENAMED AFTER CARLSEN?!
——————————
Vladimir Kramnik has never said a bad word about anyone, as far as I can remember. Always a perfect gentleman, I suppose that Vlad could not resist to poke some fun at Carlsen’s disasterous use of the Berlin Defence yesterday…I might also remind my readers that when Carlsen recently said somethings about Kramnik that might be considered provocative and unfair (for example, as Kramnik being a commentator), Kramnik declined to aggravate the situation, despite being repeatedly asked by reporters. BUT, I guess yesterday Kramnik was in a good mood, or something…

ONCE MORE, BUT WITH FEELING THIS TIME:
That’s MUCH better!
(That’ll teach Magnus not to lose two in a row again!)
