Chess from La Roda (2017)
La Roda International Open
La Roda is a smallish, traditional city in southern Spain. During the past 44 years – always close to Easter – thousands of chess players from all over the world have come to this quiet city to participate in what had become one of Spain’s most prestigious tournaments.
This year some 263 players are taking part, including 12 GMs and 8 IMs. Fourteen countries are represented. The tournament is a 9-round Swiss Open, with 11k euros in prizes, including 2,000 euros for 1st place. Today is the last day with rounds 8 and 9 being played. Everything is still possible, with not less than 15 players at the top within a half-point of each other…
Some 5-second tactics!
